Jing is what we are born with and as we age our Jing becomes depleted. Once the last of your Jing is used it is believed that this becomes the end of your earthly existence. Jing is the foundations of all your life force energy. It is predetermined at birth and it is used up over your life time. If you 'abuse' your body over the course of your life you will deplete your Jing quickly. If you nurture your body you will preserve your Jing.
Signs you might be using your Jing quicker then perhaps your ordinarily would be are:
* Looking Older then your true age
* Looking and feeling tired all day
* Trouble focusing
* Hair Loss
* Loss of will power / purpose in life
* Immunity compromise (difficulty fighting flu / colds etc)
Once your Jing is lost, it is thought that it cannot be restored. However the good news is that you preserve your Jing by eating nutritious food, using herbs and eating certain foods to support Jing, practicing Ki boosting exercises like yoga, Qi-Gong and Tai Chi, meditating and using acupressure or acupuncture.
Scientifically it has been proven that activities like Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness can slow the rate of aging so this backs up the Oriental Philosophy of Jing. Elizabeth Blackburn is credited with discovering how Telomeres (the cap on the end of your DNA chromosome) are linked to aging and stress factors. When stressed Telomeres shortened, the Chronological age is reduced and the risk for disease increases. In studies it has been demonstrated that mindfulness activities such as meditation and yoga lengthens telomeres and increases chronological age. When stress reduces, health improves and age related disease reduces.
Perhaps there is something to the theory of Jing, it’s just in Western terms it is referred to as aging. With the practice of mindful yoga science is now proving what the ancient healers knew centuries ago. Jing is preserved when we nourish ourselves with appropriate practices.
