Developmental Shiatsu for Babies
Baby Shiatsu is new to Australia but well recognised in Japan and throughout Europe. Gentle massage using Shiatsu principles creates trust and bond between parent and child. Simple techniques can be practiced on newborns and older children to support development, health and emotional well-being for both child and parents.
Shiatsu can literally be translated as meaning "finger pressure". A therapist will use hands or fingers to apply concise, gentle, deep pressure to stretch, loosen and balance the body. The first place a baby experiences pressure is in the uterus and during delivery. Pressure, such as that used in Baby Shiatsu has a direct affect on the Autonomic Nervous System resulting in calming the baby.
With its roots in Japanese tradition massage and the application of oriental philosophy, Shiatsu works on areas of the body known as meridians. Up until the age of 6 these meridians are not fully differentiated and therefore require a style of therapy that differs slightly from Shiatsu that is practiced on adults. Using a therapist who is specialised and experienced in Baby Shiatsu and Infant Massage is highly recommended to ensure a professional and completely safe treatment for your child.
Japanese women have been using Shiatsu for decades to help strengthen their babies' immune system, support their physical development and provide a stable foundation of touch from which their children can thrive. Shiatsu used in the modern world can provide a complementary therapy for parents to utilise to help their babies with a range of health problems including teething, tummy aches, difficulty sleeping, respiratory troubles and general developmental skills.
Baby Shiatsu is a wonderful complementary therapy and you should always consult a doctor for any specific medical conditions you think your child might have.
Private Consultations are currently available with group OYAKOOKO (Parent / Child) Classes coming soon.
