Shiatsu & Fertility
Oriental Therapies consider that infertility is caused by an energetic blockage or imbalance of Ki. According to traditional literature fertility is related to the Kidney, Liver, Spleen, Governing and Conception meridians. More specifically problems with reproductive health can be identified according to patterns which underlie the reason for difficulty conceiving. Stimulating key points on affected meridians, addressing lifestyle factors which may be impacting and providing a balanced, alternative approach to fertility, oriental therapies such as Shiatsu can help with healing and restoring the body to optimum function thus improving chances conception.
Shiatsu is non-invasive and will improve circulation of blood, fluid and Ki in the body. A traditional shiatsu treatment is performed on a low lying bed or futon on the ground. After an initial consultation, treatment focuses on applying firm, direct pressure to various parts of the body. The practitioner will follow particular "lines" or meridians in the body and will stimulate certain acupoints along the meridians. An abdominal massage may also be recommended for improving fertility and reproductive health. On completion of the treatment the practitioner may recommend additions or improvements to diet and lifestyle.
Yoga and Fertility
Yoga is a great way to optimise reproductive health. From reviving a tired libido, awakening sexual energy, relaxing the mind and body to improving circulation to the pelvis, releasing tension and stimulating hormone producing glands yoga could be considered a panacea for all your conception concerns.
Undergoing infertility treatment can be a highly stressful and worrying time for many couples. There is evidence to suggest that yoga reduces stress, worry and depression. A yoga practice that incorporates pranayama, meditation and mindfulness activities affect the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) to help balance the stress hormones and maintain a healthy mind and body.
Certain yoga postures can help with flexibility, strength and release of muscular tension. Some yoga asana such as Butterfly pose, the Dragon series of postures and Bridge pose can soften particular muscles associated with the pelvis and contribute to the flow of apana (energy) to this area. Restorative yoga can assist with opening and softening muscles in a relaxed way improving circulation to the reproductive organs while relaxing the mind.
