If this sounds all a bit contrived, well you would be forgiven. However there is nothing forced or artificial about Tao. By observing and ultimately reflecting you are not being forced to believe in any one thing or in anything at all. You are being encouraged to pay attention and develop awareness.
For me Tao invites me to meditate and reflect on my world, my interactions within the world and see everything as it truly is. Through the teachings of Lao Tzu I have started to appreciate the cyclic nature of things and develop new ways of perceiving my world and the situations I find myself. I have learned a new way of looking at attachment, emotions and my own reactions to interactions with other people. I certainly am not perfect and am still on that pathway of learning but through the teachings of Tao and Lao Tzu I have deepened an my understanding of the concept I learned in Aikido – Moving in Harmony with Others, with Oneself and with the Universe.
