Fire Element

According to Oriental Theory the element of Fire resides within us and is represented by 2 pairs of meridians.  These meridians are the Pericardium, Small Intestine, San Jaio and Heart. 

The season that we associate with the Fire Element is Summer time.   Think the hottest time of the year with its blazing hot sun and long days filled with light.  Fire is symbolic of the ultimate Yang at its peak of energy.  Energy moves outwards, expanding and radiating.

Fire energy is associated with:

• Transformation

By its nature fire can destroy and it can create.

• Power

Some cultures see fire as representing the Divine simply by its capacity to light, transform and warm.

• Light

The sun lights our day and is the embodiment of heat and fire.  The radiance of fire can cast out the darkness. 

• Warmth

Fire warms and protects from cold.

• Excitement and Responsiveness

An out of control blazing fire has capacity to evoke excitement and fear.  Passions can run high as yang rises.  A fire can change direction, be extinguished or fanned.

• Movement and Relaxation

Gazing into a burning flame can encourage a relaxation response in the mind, bringing a sense of calmness.

• Community

Hearth fires are often the focus for social circles.  People gather around the fire in the evenings to tell stories and be in the comfort of family and friends.

The central function of Fire lies within the space of the heart.  The heart is the place of our conscious awareness known as Shen.   The Shen is the connection between Heaven and Earth.  With the Shen residing in the Heart it becomes possible to view every human being as a conduit between both Heaven and Earth.
