Yoga for Teenagers
Yoga takes many forms. From the physical and well known yoga poses, to specific breathing techniques for anxiety and stress reduction, to meditation yoga is being taught to teenagers across the globe. Why not jump on board and see what this popular form of exercise really about?
Benefits of Yoga
Actually yoga is more than just exercise. Yoga is all about you. Yoga is about you creating time and space where you have the power to move, make noise, be still or sit in silence. Yoga lets the real you exist without judgement or fear of others telling you what you should or shouldn't do.
When you practice yoga, you learn to listen to your body and do what feels right for just you.
Yoga makes you feel good. By practicing yoga more than once a week you start to feel happier, healthier, stronger, more flexible and it can make life seem better. You find that you have more energy, you sleep better and you may become more motivated to do things you felt where impossible to achieve. With a regular practice you will feel better physically, emotionally and mentally.
As you start to feel better and you gain more confidence in yourself, its possible that other people notice how good you are and your relationships with them improve. Its not that people like you more just because you do yoga, its more like you start to like yourself more and others seem to respond to that positive change.

Attending a Class
It is recommended that most people attend at least one or more classes a week and practice with a qualified teacher. You may be lucky enough to find a yoga class just for teenagers or you can speak to someone at your school about introducing a yoga program into the school sports curriculum. If there are no specific teenager yoga classes near you, perhaps you can join a regular beginners program in your suburb or town.

Developing a Personal Practice
Once you have attended a few classes you might find that you can develop your own personal practice. Because yoga only requires a small space and your willingness to practice, yoga can be practiced anytime, anywhere. Speak to your qualified teacher about creating your own sacred place that is your spot for practicing yoga at home. You might practice in your bedroom, somewhere in the house or perhaps you want your sacred yoga place to be out in nature either in your garden, on the beach or a park close to where you live. That is what makes yoga such a great form of exercise which is effective and affordable.
